Description of this Painting
"SUNSETS" .... are Maggie's very favorite aspect of any "Geddings Original" paintings - oil or acrylic. This most recent masterpiece from one of Florida's most popular landscape artists (i.e. Riley Geddings) captures to the ultimate degree everything that I admire in my husband's sunset paintings. This "Sunset Afterglow" reminds me of the painting now hanging in the dining room of our home - "Sunset on The Glades" - which was commissioned in 2009 for my 78th birthday gift from Riley ... need I say more !!
Let our eyes now gaze upon this "Sunset Afterglow" which contains a lot of knifework (a big plus in my opinion). The colors in that beautiful sky automatically remind us of a sunset - and in this case, the afterglow of the sun setting over the Florida Everglades. I love those Florida citrus colors - the lemons, the oranges, the tangerines and even the grapefruit holding centerstage, whilst shades of a mauvy-lavender are beginning to appear on the outside edges - heralding the approach of another night. One can just just imagine the sun having just disappeared beyond our horizon and yet the sun's rays - the afterglow if you will - are still emanating back into the arena of that sky ... nice job Riley !! The knifework is evidenced especially in the lingering clouds and continues down into the reflections of the sunset in the waters below.
Claiming centerstage in the foregound is one of Florida's native birds - the Great Blue Heron - lingering for just that one more morsel from this freshwater pond before retiring for the night. On the left, bringing this foreground into perspective, is a partial view of a few Cypress Trees complete with the native Spanish Moss - found in abundance in The Glades. Beyond this, I espy Mr. and Mrs. Great White Egret also seeking those last morsels. Silhouetted against that gorgeous sky, are two smaller islands on which the Florida foliage abounds and is highlighted by those magnificent Sabal Palm Trees (Florida's official state tree). Completing this oil painting, we notice the sawgrass plain in the far distance which completes the multi-dimentional effect of this beautiful work of art.
Finally, I need to mention the frame in which the painting is displayed (your free bonus, one might say). This new, solid wood frame was purposely selected to blend with the golden colors of the sunset scene .... it blends perfectly with that sky and almost leaves me breathless !!

About This Artist
Riley Geddings is a self-taught, noted Florida landscape artist who is keeping the old 'traditional Florida art' alive with his unique painting style, influenced in part by the now-famous "Florida Highwaymen" of the mid 1950's ! He has been painting professionally since 1989 - or about 20 years !
