"Refreshed by the Rain"

An Original Oil Painting by Riley Geddings,
Florida Landscape Artist
Artist's Narration of this Painting
"Refreshed by the Rain" was completed in September, 2011. I am always fascinated when I see so many variations of clouds. The density, the lighting, and the colors along with the layers and patterns offers the artist an unlimited array from which to choose ! In this painting, I tried to give you a scenario of a rain storm which has now passed and has refreshed this gathering place for wildlife.
In the distance, across the saw grass plain, are various trees, appearing misty from the high humidity of the rain. Closer to us on the plain is a typical "island" of slash pines and a mixture of undergrowth.
Moving to the left, I have presented you with a hammock of Florida trees including a few stately, edible cabbage palm trees. Then we have the "lowland" area where one can always find a shallow pond loaded with small fish. The water from this pond gives nourishment to the surrounding reeds making them nice and green. In addition, the calm surface serves as a mirror containing beautiful reflections !
The wading herons are busying themselves fishing in the shallows for small bream and on has taken flight across the pond to search elsewhere for a morsel.
Hovering overhead is my hallmark, the inquisitive Black-headed Gull (Larus Ridibundus), ready to pounce on an unsuspecting fish. I hope you will enjoy looking at this painting as much as I did painting it !
