" Quiet Gathering "

Another Original Painting by Riley Geddings,
Florida Landscape Artist

Description by Maggie Geddings,
Writer, Author and Poet

Description of this Painting
"QUIET GATHERING" was painted in early June, 2010 by my favorite artist - my husband,
Riley Geddings , a noted Florida Landscape Artist. It is indeed a depiction of a quiet gathering of three of Florida's native birds in Florida's unique Everglades. This latest masterpiece is once more located in The Glades in the southern section of our wonderful "Sunshine State" ... a scene one might enjoy perusing whilst one pauses to "smell the roses" as we continue this leg of our Life's Journey ... today we venture once more into "no-man's land" - the Florida Everglades wilderness.

My description absolutely must start with that beautiful sky-line ... what a way to start the day !! First and foremost catching my eye is the disappearing life-giving sun, beyond the horizon, folding its wings - if you will - north and south ... an awesome site to behold ... a sky ablaze with color and one of the favorite attractions one enjoys in Florida. Riley has captured to perfection those gorgeous colors of lemons, oranges, reds, and mauves of a typical setting sun ... like his artist's palette ! Floating above are the lovely cumulous clouds giving way to another day's end as the sun is about to set ... sooooo beautiful !! With the use of his knife, Riley has created an almost 3-D effect by accentuating those lower clouds which are saying goodbye to the sun. Nice job Riley ...

Our eyes are now drawn to the trees - on the left I see five Cabbage - or Sabal - palm trees raising their fronds to wave goodbye to another day in paradise. Across the pond is a cluster of Cypress Trees, found in abundance here in The Glades as they nestle in the lowlands, enjoying the constant supply of life-giving water. On the far right, we find a dead Cypress Tree, called a "snag", on which an Osprey has chosen to build her nest. Ever alert, her eyes scan the waters for signs for that last fish of the day for her supper. These shallows contain an ample supply of small fish, such as Bream, Shellcracker, etc., which are also the food supply for the Great White Heron - another native bird of Florida found in The Everglades. In the forefront another one of these graceful birds is gliding in to join his cousins for supper. Finally - as one has come to expect in all of Riley's paintings, we see his "hallmark" - the inquisitive Black-headed Gull (Larus Ridibundus) our favorite gull hovering and seeking his last repast for the day.

Another masterpiece from the palette of Riley Geddings ... Another Geddings' Original ...
Well done Riley !!

Viewer Feedback
I just looked at your last painting, and it's very nice. I compliment you on a nice work. I noticed that you have shown the herons (or cranes?) in several positions, and they all look so lifelike. I also liked your use of color in the sunset. I can only imagine how many times you have studied the real thing. It sure shows. Best of luck and continued success to you. - F.

Riley, Maggie once again has added detailed information to your painting that helps me out when I look at the different parts of your painting "" Quiet Gathering " . The first thing I saw was the heron also know as "Detail Heron Gliding In". The shadows under the wings look great and enhances the overall feeling of your painting. The Osprey in the nest was another little gem to look at. The word "BEAUTIFUL" sums it up. - L.

Dear Riley and Maggie,
I looked at the beautiful "Quiet Gathering." and read the description. You make a wonderful pair and the painting is an active yet soft and quiet alluring scene. The proportions are perfectly done so that you get a rounded and balanced enjoyment of both colors; species and nature. I must say the yellow sunset is gorgeous. I was attracted to a similar sunset that I saw at the end of a video about the rain forest of British Columbia. As a matter of fact I liked the soothing yellows with the crimson weaving so much that I am presently using those same co-lours for a skyline to oppose the brighter colors in the foreground. You painting captures so much - Beautiful comes to mind, and might I add MAJESTIC! Great job to both of you. Oh and I absolutely love the frame too. J.D.

Riley, Looks like the real thing! Beautiful. Congratulations. - M.

Bless You For Looking !
