Another Original Painting by Riley Geddings,
Florida Landscape Artist

Description by Maggie Geddings,
Writer, Author and Poet

Description of this Painting
"GLADES AFTERGLOW" was painted in late June, 2010 by my favorite artist - my husband,
Riley Geddings , a noted Florida Landscape Artist.

Needs must that I avert my eyes from the absolutely gorgeous frame ... and concentrate initially on the actual painting per se ... more on the frame later.

For a change of pace, Riley has chosen the twilight hours shortly after sunset in order to portray this very interesting and somewhat rare scene. Let us first address the firmament -
the sky - the heavens, where in the top right-hand corner I espy a few emerging stars in the approaching night sky. Could that be "The Plough" (my English Education) - aka "The Big Dipper" (USA vernacular) - aka "Ursa Major" - aka "Polaris" (Wikipedia) - aka "The North Star" ? Those beautiful clouds are the aftermath of a heavy shower just before sunset. As the day tranforms into night, we are priviledged to observe a ritual of certain wildlife taking place as it has for thousands of years ... the nocturnal wildlife changes shifts with the daylight creatures. The sun has just now set, leaving behind a pastel afterglow, against which is a dark - almost black - silhouette of a Great White Heron, gliding on silent wings in search of his roost for the night.

In the foreground is a small body of water typical of those found in Florida's Everglades. On the left a dead Cypress tree has fallen into the water creating a perfect location for another Great White Heron to stand as he seeks one last Bream for his evening snack. Forming a background is a small cluster of Cabbage - or Sabal palm trees - Florida's state tree - raising their fronds in a fond farewell to one more day in Paradise. On the right, under the overhanging protection of a "Scrub Oak" tree, we find several Roseate Spoonbills who have already found their roost for the night on the dead branches of several small shrubs. Conspicuous by its absence, is Riley's customary "hallmark" - the inquisitive Black-headed Gull (Larus Ridibundus) ... see you in the next painting "Larry R.".

Yet another great masterpiece from the palette of Riley Geddings ... Another Geddings' Original ... Well done Riley !!

"Riley the clouds are so sensual in your painting "GLADES AFTERGLOW" .
They look as if they are kissing the sky.
The stars in a twilight painting look great. It makes me think of when I see the moon
in the morning or afternoon sky.
The pink birds in the lower right pop out from the green plants."
