Description of this Painting
" FLORIDA BAYOU " - a somewhat change of pace for this acrylic painting by my favorite artist - my husband,
Riley Geddings - the highly-esteemed, talented, popular Florida Landscape Artist (what more can
a wife say !!).
This particular scenario is located a little ways inland from the Gulf of Mexico area of southwest Florida - a typical coastal marine setting.
It is obviously low tide - as evidenced by the oyster bed in the foreground - now temporarily exposed inasmuch as the
tide has now receded for a while. Those seafood lovers amongst us can readily avouch for the enjoyment one
experiences as one gulps down that delectable morsel - the oyster.
Swimming adjacent to the oyster bed is a Brown Pelican - his brother/sister is right behind him - also intent on
finding a noontime meal of fish from the clear, briny waters of this estuary. Whenever one pauses for a while to
admire a quiet, secluded Florida coastal area such as this, one is most likely to see such birds - our ever-present, fish-loving,
Pelican. Also wading on the right, we espy another typical Florida bird - the Great White Heron, also trying to find his lunch
of fish, whilst on the opposite side another such Heron is gliding in on silent wings ... lunchtime for sure at this Florida
bayou.
Midway is seen a finger of land with the usual Florida foliage and underbrush, including a few Cabbage - or Sabal - palm trees
silhouetted against the clear blue sky. Behind this larger finger of land we can see the far shores of a similar island,
with the sandy beach and grassy reeds exposed due to the low tide hour. The size and condition of the overhead cumulous
clouds is indicative of two bands of incoming boundaries (as described by our local Fox weather forecaster) - east and west -
converging over this bayou - and eventually producing the typical afternoon Florida rain showers.
Finally - as one has come to expect in all of Riley's paintings, we see his "hallmark" - the inquisitive Black-headed Gull
(Larus Ridibundus) - this time - not one - not two - but a trio of our favorite gull hovering and seeking a lunchtime repast.
Another great acrylic painting from my favorite artist - Riley Geddings.
